Job description, responsibilities and duties

The main purpose of the Voice Engineer Slovak position within IS Voice Support CEE organization is the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of voice network of UPC Slovakia, and supporting the service and network development projects.
• Responsible for managing voice equipment and network in UPC Slovakia, VoIP equipment of multiple vendors Genband/Nokia/, Huawei IMS/Oracle, etc.
• Troubleshoots VoIP issues with support and providing Technical feedback to his/her manager to improve quality of the network on a regular basis and ability to identify and highlight to his/her manager any gaps, in knowledge or process that might impede the effective operation of VoIP networks under their control is one of his/her assets.
• Maintains and troubleshoots routing tables of local voice systems including ENUM based on input of wholesale/billing department, support number portability processes
• Installs and maintains TDM and VOIP interconnects to national telco partners with the support of network/transmission teams. Troubleshoots IC problems.
• Supports wholesale and B2b services from core network point of view.
• Supports Customer Care with regards to individual customer problems if needed using local processes
• Informs and counsel his superiors in a way that they can manage any major technical escalations related to VoIP networks in an appropriate way, and plan and decide in due time about any appropriate operational improvement measures that need to be taken.
• Supports root cause analysis of incidents if needed.
• Takes part in Change management processes like local approval of changes, plays execution and testing role in changes
• Supports CPE release management with local testing of new EMTAs and firmwares.
• Supports network and service developments projects by contacting to local departments, installing equipment, performing local acceptance tests.
• He/she is able to work within a team of engineers from different departments and vendors and is taking the lead to track and resolve issues.
• CZ Legal Interception tasks - security approved person by national authorities for all LI related tasks
• Local oncall support for voice/interconnects 24/7
• Anti FRAUD related tasks for residential/b2b customers

University education (Master's degree)

Personality requirements and skills

• Master or Bachelor Degree in Information Technology or Computer / Electrical Engineering
• 5+ years' experience in the Telecom industry, with VoIP operational support, design and/or implementation related roles.
• Experience in operating, maintaining, and recovering voice/Telco equipment (VOIP switches, SBCs, media gateways) is a must and considered business as usual.
• Recent and good knowledge in Debugging and Analyses of complex issues within VoIP implementations
• Experience in VoIP related protocols as SIP, Diameter, MGCP or H.323, SS7, INAP, DNS/ENUM (E.164) and LNP
• Basic knowledge of UNIX/Solaris/Linux systems
• Fluent in English speaking and writing
• Fluent in Slovak speaking and writing
