Information about the position

Job description, responsibilities and duties

Under the overall supervision of the Emergency Coordinator and the Head of Sub-Office, Kosice, and direct supervision of the Senior Programme Support Assistant, and, in collaboration with relevant units, the incumbent will be responsible for assisting in the successful implementation of Border Operations within Emergency Response.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

1.Provide first assistance, legal counselling, and different kinds of information to people arriving or displaced in Slovakia due to conflict in Ukraine (personally at the points of entry and registration centers).
2.Carry out field activities in assigned areas, such as points of entries, hotspots, and registration centers
3.Provide correct referrals for migrants depending on their needs and requests, be aware of organizations' activities that are present in the field and cooperate with NGOs or other UN Agencies.
4.Collect data on migration flows and migrants´, their needs and intentions; conduct return surveys and fill in beneficiary forms based on observation.
5.Act as an interpreter/translator.
6.Report on the current situation at the borders and registration centers on the daily basis.
7.Provide photo reports according to the rules of IOM.
8.Attend coordination meetings of the Frontline Workers Team.
9.Take part in all IOM trainings.
10.Prepare necessary travel documents following the rules and instructions provided by office staff.
11.Carry out above mentioned duties in case of emergency
12.In case of Emergency the staff must be available on call within 24h for 24h shifts (3x 8h shifts or 2x 12h shifts)
13.Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Employee perks, benefits

Consultancy Contract, until 31 March 2023 (with possibility of extension)
All inclusive fee at 11.50 EUR per hour.

Education

•Completed secondary education or higher preferably from accredited academic institution in Law, Political Science, International Relations, Social Sciences, Psychology, or a related field.

Experience

•Work experience in migration field and emergency response an advantage.
•Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups; and,
•Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
•Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills including ability to work under time pressure
•Ability to work individually and in multicultural team

•Strong communication and organizational skills

Languages

Fluency in English, Slovak, Ukrainian and Russian is required. Working knowledge of other official IOM languages (Spanish, French) is an advantage.
